Current Definition Design Methodologies
Three different generations of design methodologies have been identified: (1) the first generation is a view of design in which there is a strict separation between analysis and synthesis, and solutions are completely specified before implementation (this approach underlies the "waterfall" model); (2) the second generation considers expertise in design to be distributed equally among all participants, and design decisions are made by considering issues from several alternative positions (this viewunderlies the "participatrory design" approach); (3) in the third generation, professional designer make conjectures and create objects-to-think-with which are open to refutation by all stakeholders.
